To start off the show, we look at our Tarot Card for the week and we look for moments that relate to this card in our daily lives.
For this week, we chose the Three of Cups. The theme of this card is a journey of friendship. The card shows a close knit group of friends. Friendships really are a series of moments like this, each one contributing to the next and then reminiscing about all the crazy times you’ve had together.
It’s just a very happy card with a lot of celebration and coming together in mutual friendship.
It reminds me of how with friends when one has something to celebrate, good friends will be really happy. There’s no jealousy or anything like that, it's just being happy for another person that you care about because they are happy. And that’s reciprocated! No matter who has some good news, everyone comes together and celebrates with the same amount of happiness as the last time.
I don't know about you, but I don't like cleaning. I'd really rather not. As a person with ADHD, I have lower dopamine production than a neurotypical person. If I feel like there is something that is more fun or interesting, it’s hard to motivate myself to do a less fun thing, no matter how important that thing is.
Regardless of how you feel about it, cleaning and decluttering are important and necessary. Not only for physical health, but for spiritual and mental health too.
And here’s why…
In some ways cleaning—both physically and energetically—ties back to what we were talking about in terms of maintaining a sacred space. It is a never ending process of evaluating the things in your life and letting go of what no longer serves you. It is a process of releasing anything that is not helpful in order to welcome beneficial energy.
Having executive dysfunction, I often feel overwhelmed with just how much there is to keep up with. So, to make it more fun, I make it mystical and witchy. I started by thinking about the purpose of the space, because that is basically setting an intention for how I want that space to feel.
I then assigned each space in my home to a zodiac sign and the corresponding astrological house. Then, over the course of one month or lunar cycle, I clean the space according to which sign the moon is in.

♏️ Scorpio - Master Bedroom

Last week, we talked about energetic cleansing as part of preventative protection measures. This week, let’s talk about physical cleaning and decluttering.
Here’s a procedure to follow
1. Use a Timer
My first step is to set a timer for 15 minutes. This is maybe unnecessary for some people but this is a small promise I make with myself that I only have to clean for a set amount of time. This helps me get over the initial hurdle, which is to start cleaning. Once I get started, cleaning becomes sort of meditative, and I can continue past the 15 minutes to complete the process.
2. Evaluate Objects
Depending on how long it’s been since I last decluttered, I collect two garbage bags and a box or basket.
Then, it’s time to go through every drawer, closet, pantry, cupboard, shelf, under bed, basket, pocket, purse, and/or wallet in the space I’m focused on. I look at each item and consider whether it serves the purpose of the space.
If it does, set it aside out of the way so it can be cleaned and returned after cleaning the surfaces.
If it does not serve the purpose of the space, place it in the box so it can be cleaned and carried to a more appropriate home where it can better serve its purpose.
If it is usable but no longer serves you, bless it and add it to one of the garbage bags so it can be given away.
Otherwise, dispose of it by placing it in the other garbage bag.
3. Clean Surfaces
After all items and objects are removed from their storage area, like a table, shelf, bin, or bag, you can dust, sweep, mop, vacuum and wipe all the surfaces. All the while, keeping the intention of the space in mind.
For the most part, strong cleaners are unnecessary. They can even make you sick and they smell bad. And they aren’t very earth friendly. There are many commercially available natural cleaners, but it’s also really easy and inexpensive to make your own. Plus when you make your own you can infuse it with your magical intention.
Start with base ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and borax. Add the power of essential oils to create fresh, pleasing scents and an extra boost of magical energy.

4. Return Objects
When all the surfaces are free of the grime, dirt, dust, pet hair, and dander, return the items that belong there. I find that I can feel the energy shift as soon as you begin this process, but returning things to their rightful space settles everything back.
tips for magical cleaning
It was mentioned before, but establish your intention before you start cleaning. Keep reminding yourself of the intention of the space as you go. This is motivating and also a simple way to charge the space with that intention.
Say a prayer or express gratitude in some way when you finish cleaning. This also charges the space with the energy you desire. Play music, dance, sing, have sex, cook a meal, read a book, do a tarot reading, whatever is right for the space will set the tone for the atmosphere.
Pay attention to your emotions and use cleaning to help reset your attitude. If you’re feeling angry, stressed or another low vibe emotion, you can channel it into cleaning and transmute it into another emotion like accomplished.
The Moon is in a sign for about two or three days. So, it can be helpful to break up what needs to be done between the days, especially for big jobs. Focus one day on decluttering and the second day cleaning. Or you could do physical cleaning on one day and then energetic cleaning the next. Or clean thoroughly one day, and rest on the second day.
Essential oils are wonderful tools but always use them safely. They are highly potent, so avoid getting them directly on the skin. If they do contact your skin, the best thing to do is use a carrier oil to dilute it (water drives oils deeper into the skin causing further irritation). And don’t forget to check if your oils are safe to use around your pets.

Send us a voicemail
We play one listener voicemail on each episode of Talk Witchcraft, with a few exceptions. To send us a voicemail, record a voice memo on your phone and email it to welisten [at] talkwitchcraft [dot] com. Please keep in mind that we only choose voicemails that are two minutes in length or shorter (even if they’re great!).
What we’re looking for in a voicemail
Share from your personal experiences (especially experiences that we could never have) and use that to illuminate the zodiac season or theme in new ways.
Ask questions of Erica and Maggie, so we have an opportunity to respond meaningfully to your voicemail during the podcast.
Use one of these prompts: Is there something happening with you and your life that aligns with the current zodiac season or a Tarot card? How do your experiences show us something new about the magic, something that we haven’t talked about so far?
Send a voicemail even if you’re behind on the podcast. If your voicemail is about a previous episode, zodiac season, or tarot card; that doesn’t mean we won’t choose it!
Tips for recording a great voicemail
Make sure you’re somewhere quiet.
Plan what you’re going to say ahead of time, because two minutes goes quickly.
Opt for talking freely based on a bullet pointed list rather than reading word-for word from a script.
Let us know if you’d prefer to remain anonymous.
Wait, don’t go yet!
